Each week GOPAC will spotlight a candidate running for election. This week's Candidate in the spotlight is Incoming Florida State Senate President Jeff Atwater. Atwater's roots in public service run deep. Broward County was named for his great-grandfather, Napoleon Bonaparte Broward, governor of Florida from 1905 to 1909. Atwater holds an MBA from the University of Florida and more than 20 years of banking experience which provides him with unique insights into legislative issues pertaining to banking, insurance, finance, fiscal responsibility and the burden that taxes and regulations place on small businesses.
Jeff Atwater was elected to the Florida House in 2000 and in 2002 defeated the popular Democratic Attorney General to win a Florida Senate seat. In the Florida Legislature, Jeff Atwater has applied his conservative values as a tireless champion of lowering property taxes, reducing job-killing regulations, reducing homeowners' insurance rates and imposing tough new penalties for criminals and gang members. Senator Atwater is a prolific campaigner and fundraiser for Republican candidates throughout Florida.
